Chapter 1 – Interview
Having finally finished up college with a Degree in Creative Writing I decided that it was time for me
to get back into a steadier full-time job. I had been working intermittently as a part-time nanny for a
few years with one full-time live in nanny position. I had taken childcare courses as minor along
with multiple certifications.
Ilovedchildrensoregisteringwith‘NannyPoppins’ahighlyrenowned nanny service in Seattle,
seemed like the best option while I attended college. I could give them my hours of availability, pick
up more hours during the summer and holidays, as well as attend my full time college schedule so
that I could graduate on time. It was the best thing that ever happened, and was the reason that my
minor was changed from Literature to Childcare.
Angela had become a close friend after my first month with the agency. She had hopped from high
profile home to high profile home; being a nanny to some of the most elite persons that Washington
had ever produced. For the past three years she has been working in the Cullen household for Dr.
Edward Cullen, world renowned surgeon. He has been featured in People, Science Daily, and Time,
just to name a few.
Shewastheonewhohadurgedmetochangemyavailabilitytothe‘full-time, live-in’statusNeither
sheorIknewatthattimethatshewouldbemovingonfrom‘live-in’nannysosoonafterIchanged
my availability with the service. Ben’sproposalwasnotexpectedatallbutwasdefinitelya
wonderful surprise. Angela had called me the next day to give me all the details; from their beach
picnic to his garden, bent on one knee proposal. It was a cheesy and romantic as Angela.
It was fourmonthslaterthatsheputherresignationinwiththeCullen’ssoshecouldattemptto
find a position that would better suit her soon to be married status. When the agency called me to
get my approval to forward my profile on I hesitated until I talked to Angela. She almost killed me
for hesitating, since she specifically had my file requested. Now I was in my truck driving from
Forks to Seattle.

“Bellaareyouonyourway?”Angelawhisperedintothephone
“YeahIshouldbethereshortlywhat’swrong?”
“Everything”shegroaned“HefindssomethingwrongwitheverysingleoneofthemThisisyour
chancetorunwhileyoucan”
Ilaughed“Thenwhat?You’llgetmarriedandstilllivewiththeCullen’s?Idon’t think that Ben will
likethattoomuch”
She sighed.
“I’llbethereintenminutes”IsaidquicklybeforeclosingmyphoneandpickedupspeedMytruck
wasoldbutreliablethoughIcouldn’tpushitmuchmoreoritwouldscreamuncle
I parked on the curb and climbed out of my truck. My eyes widened when I took in the size of the

Before I could knock Angela opened the door with a large smile. Quickly she hugged me and
whisperedinmyear“Braceyourself”

I nodded and then glanced from him to Angela who was grinning.
“IamEdwardCullen”Heputhishand out.
Itookhishandandshookitfeelingashockagainsthisskin“Sorry”Imumbled
“Yeswelllet’sgetstartedPleasetakeaseat”HemotionedtoachairacrossfromAngelaandhimI
sat down and folded my hands on the table.
“Lookingthrough your resume it seems that you have only had one live in arrangement and it was
foraninfant”HelookedupatmeandInodded“Youdorealizethatthisisaliveinplacementwith
asixyearoldchildcorrect?”Inoddedagainandsmiled“Soyourother placements have been daily
arrangementsonintermittentbasis?”
“Yesmostlyformother’swhoarejustreturningtoworkandneededsomeoneuntiltheirchildren
startedschool”HelookedatmeintentlyItwasinthismomentthatItookinhisextreme good
looks; he was almost pure perfection. His perfectly smooth skin, the bone structure of his face, high
cheek bones and strong jaw, his smooth pale red lips, and the bright white teeth that I could get a
glimpse of when he spoke. Then there was his hair, bronze, unruly and wild; a complete contrast to
his cold, calm, collected mannerisms.

“WellIdidhoweverthatwaswhileIfinishedcollegeNowthatIhavedoneso”hecutmeoff

Icollectedmythoughtsandanswered“Iintendtousemychildcare experience and education while
I am employed in childcare; however, I also have a creative writing degree that I would like to put to

“Daddy?”Istoppedspeakingandturnedtoseeasweetpaleskinnedgirlwithcurlyredhairenter
the room. She was small, but she still had the round pink cheeks of a baby. Her hair was in large
ringlets that flowed over her shoulders; she looked like a porcelain doll in her little blue and white
striped dress. I felt a smile creep over my lips as I took in her appearance.
“VictoriaI’mbusyatthemomentIwillcomeseeyoushortly”Herespondedwithoutlooking at
her.
“Iapologizedaddy”shemumbledandIwatchedherfacefall

she responded quietly.

Clearly he was questioning my information, which made me feel as if he was calling me a liar or a
fraud; now that just pissed me off.

I raised my eyebrow at him.
He lightly cleared his throat and glared at me.
I could see that this interview was over.

grabbing my purse and heading for the door.
“Areyoucomingback?”I spun quickly to look at the staircase where Victoria stood looking at me. I

“UmIdon’tknow”Ismiledandherfacefell“Heythereareotherpeopletointerviewsoyouhave
to give them all a fair shotOkay?”IlightlyliftedherchintolookatmewhileIspokeShenodded
and I smiled before turning back toward the door.
IcamealmostfacetochestwithDrCullen“Victoriapleasegotoyourroom”Hisvoicewascold
and stern.
Blinking rapidly, I took a couple of steps back and then around him heading out the door. Once I was
inmytruckIreleasedabreaththatIhadbeenholding“WellwaytofuckthatupBella!”Iyelledat
myself before I drove off.
Grabbing my cell phone I quickly text Angela“I’msorryIjustcouldn’ttakeanymoreofhimForgive
me?”
It was hours later while sitting in front of the TV with my father watching baseball that Angela
responded.
“YouaremorethanforgivenYouarehired!”Ihadtoreadthetextthreetimesbefore it sunk in and
I got excited.
ThenIstoppedmidhappydanceShit!I’dhavetoseethatfuckereveryday!Ughifonlyhekepthis
mouth shut and just let me look at him, it would be perfect. I laughed at my own internal dialogue
and my father looked at me like I had lost it.

My father snorted with laughter.

I stretched out on my bed, listening to some of my cramped joints crack, then called Angela.

“Well, the agency will be sending you over the position offer in a couple of hours and once you get it
