THE SECRET OF ZIR’AN
CORE GAMEBOOK
Aram Thanks:
My Mom (Hi!) for indulging me in the Oradell, NJ Toy’s ‘R Us the
summer of ’78, and continuing to indulge my imaginary and educational
growth. The fi rst gaming crew in SC; Carl and Jorn. Matt and Jesper for
that fi rst critical year in Los Altos. Karl and Will for the High School
and early college gaming years. Jared, Todd, and Dave for picking up the
torch after the HS group went their separate ways. (Last names omitted
due to impartial memory and for protection of the innocent) Chris
Hockabout for drawing me into the Interface crew (proof that letter
writing works sometimes!) and the other characters there; Thaddeus
Howze, Barton Bolemen, Kevin DeAntonio, and Peter Christian. Wes
Harris, Darek Killian, Darren Layne, and all the relics of the mansion
for camaraderie, support, and love. Moses Ferrer, Victor Phillips, Julius
Baker, and James Shyun for the instruction over the years. Of course,
the brotherhood eternal Chris Hockabout, Marty Caplan, and Marcus
Flores. Is this thing really happening? Regardless, if we’re not in the
old folks home, on another planet, or in the wastelands after the bomb
or anywhere else in the bright open future as friends, brothers, and
accomplices, there’ll be hell to pay!
Chris Thanks:
David A. Hargrave, Mike Ebert, Michael Pondsmith, Thaddeus Howze,
Barton Bolemen, Kevin DeAntonio, Tita Grady, Dale McKee, Justin Chin,
Dave Ackerman, Michio Okamura, Mark Rein•Hagen, and the kids of
the 1992 RPG class at the Berkeley Jewish Community Center… and
my parents, of course.
Marcus Thanks:
First and foremost my mother, sister and brother for being my very
fi rst gaming group. Temistokle Martinez for rambling with me about
a weird dream in a Laundromat. All of the play-testers for having fun
with us and making us look at our child with a less then adoring eyes.
Kublacon, DunDraCon and ConQuest for supporting us throughout
the years. Special thanks to Alex and the others boys who pass the time
gaming, keep your head above it all brother. Thanks to all gamers, GMs
& Players alike and here’s to the tall-tales we can spin; let the meek and
strong fi ght over this fl oating rock - we’ll create a dozen other worlds
that we rule… with a fl aming sword!
Marty Thanks:
Thanks to Dad for poisoning my fi rst Dwarven Cleric at the Keep on
the Borderlands, and to Mom for supporting my creative expression no
matter how odd it was. To Eric Marlais, Marco Marlais, Mark Hamilton,
Michael Hamilton, Matt Fisher and Bill “Obie” Kauffman for the 72
hour marathons constructing paradise from dice, paper, imagination,
Cherry Coke and pepperoni pizza. To Mark Rein•Hagen, Joshua
Gabriel Timbrook and Wes Harris for the Mansion and an education
in inspired (inebriated?) game design. To Aram Gutowski, Marcus
Flores and Chris Hockabout for obvious reasons, my true brothers.
And fi nally to everyone at White Wolf for believing in us enough to
bring Zir’An into reality.
